KYEC upholds to the concept of “Sustainability” by taking positive commitment in environmental protection, energy saving and waste reduction, and recycling and reuse. We believe that environmental issues are the responsibility which all enterprise should fulfill. Hence, the environmental objective of KYEC Group does not only meet the laws and regulations but will emphasize on international eco-friendly trends. KYEC Group constantly acquires the certification of various environmental management systems as well collaborating with upstream and downstream suppliers to implement the concept of “Green Production.” Such green concept will sustain recycling and constantly invest in the manufacturing technology and productivity through low pollution, energy saving, and waste reduction, providing customers with better quality service and fulfilling the company’s social responsibility as objectives.

  • Energy Consumption and Management

 

  • Establish integrated "waste reduction and energy saving" organization framework to include procurement, sales, quality management and other divisions so that the management becomes more comprehensive.
  • Based on company environment policy, KYEC establishes and includes the different objectives in waste reduction and energy saving as obligations to be followed by all employees.
  • Call for energy control meeting weekly to routinely analyze and inspect the performance of factory power use and energy saving, implementing target management and reduction for energy-consumption division.
  • Set up real-time monitoring system to organize, institutionalize and simplify energy management system
  • Control the use of various energies and send personnel to handle and review causes immediately for any anomaly.
  • Routinely implement equipment maintenance and care by constantly evaluating equipment performance and replacing old power-consuming equipment with new ones to improve the energy-saving effectiveness.
  • Discover potential abnormal energy consumption from IT-Scan technology to immediately trace and improve.
  • Integrate system standards in environmental certification such as ISO14001, ISO14064 and QC080000 with factory operations to improve the management system.
  • Introduce excellent suppliers and experts to participate in evaluation and improvement by learning from their experience and improving the energy-saving effect of the factories.
  • Establish proposal and improvement incentive mechanism, encouraging staff to propose energy saving and improvement solutions in addition to distributing bonus according to effectiveness.
  • The direct energy and indirect energy use for 2015 are shown below, which consist mainly of power use while diesel is mainly used in emergency power generator, activated only during routine maintenance and testing.

  • Nearly 90% of KYEC 's greenhouse gas emission comes from power consumption and hence the annual objectives of continual execution emphasizes on the improvement projects in power conservation and management. We continue to develop and upgrade equipment performance by more profoundly launching different facility and processing equipment energy-saving projects. All factories continue to implement energy saving programs since 2003 and save electricity in an annual average of 14,891,607 kWh, reducing 14,891.607 tons of carbon emission.

 

  • Water Resource Use and Management
  • Establish an organization of water conservation promotion to develop annual guidelines of implementation and establish operation procedures for routine review.
  • Assure the stable water use and replace water consuming equipment to avoid waste through the surveillance system, routine meter check, routine maintenance, and inspection.
  • Use monitoring system, routine metering, routine maintenance and inspection to assure stable water use.
  • Design the reuse of processing recycled water to increase water resource recycling rate and reduce the usage of tap water.
  • Post educational posters on water and energy saving routinely to help employees gain knowledge to energy saving
  • Take initiative in participating in counseling project on water waving organized by Industrial Development Bureau and continue to exchange experience on water conservation with peer industries.
  • Constantly seek for new equipment and technology that will improve the proportion of factory water recycling and reuse.

  • KYEC constantly launch different water saving projects, including recycling and reuse of processing waste water, water treatment improvement, water processing recycling rate, and upgrade in re-utilization rate performance, to effectively use resources.

 

  • Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Inventory
  • One of the most important environmental protection issues is the struggle against climate change and global warming for most enterprises today. KYEC has been building the greenhouse gas inventory system since 2006 to conduct annual inventory and energy-saving measures to achieve the objectives in greenhouse gas reduction.
  • To effectively manage the source of greenhouse gas emission, KYEC follows the advice from ISO14064 and GHG Protocol Initiative to identify the types and sources of occurrence that could possibly produce greenhouse gas in the operational range, followed by the certification from external SGS.
  • The 2015 inventory and calculation show that the greenhouse gas emission from Scope 1 is 5,953.5799 tons of CO2e, accounting for 2.2% with main source from R-134a coolant from the water cooling machine. The greenhouse gas emission in Scope 2 is 212,787.5228 tons of CO2e, accounting for 97.28% with main source from purchased power. In terms of ratio, the greenhouse gas emission of the company mainly comes from purchased power.

  • KYEC completes ISO14064-1 Greenhouse gas external certification every year since 2007.
  • Participating in the Greenhouse Gas Weight Loss Plan from the Industrial Development Bureau, Ministry of Economic Affairs, since 2011.

 

  • Waste Management and Recycling
  • KYEC specializes in semiconductor testing process using non-toxic substance and does not involve in air pollution emission in the testing process but only waste water treatment and waste. The wastes are commissioned to certified suppliers for handling without transporting outside of Taiwan.
  • The total wastes produced in 2015 are 1,907.31 tons/year, among which 5.98 tons/year are hazardous industrial waste, 1,381.3 tons/year are general industrial waste, and 520.03 tons/year are general wastes.

  • Waste Water Discharge and management
  • Abide by domestic and international environmental protection act and acquire water pollution prevention permit to routinely conduct waste water inspection and declaration.
  • Establish processing waste water recycling and waste water equipment to improve processing waste water recycling and reuse rate, thereby reducing the impact of waste water discharge on the environment.
  • Effluent is discharged to licensed agricultural waste water and sewage inspection analysis after treatment. The irrigation drains have been inspected over the years and routine analysis is conducted to inspect if the discharge data conform to the effluent and Taiwan Joint Irrigation Association standards.
  • Specialists will be assigned to operate and manage waste water recycling and treatment equipment, in addition to developing operational maintenance and repair process in order to maximize the benefits of prevention equipment.
  • KYEC commissions the inspection agency approved by the Environmental Protection Administration in every 6 months to conduct inspection and the results all conform to regulatory standards.
  • Factory environmental protection personnel shall conduct site-audit for waste water treatment and out of factory waste water discharge daily. Conduct reflux treatment for abnormal water flow.
  • KYEC prepares annual budget to maintain and replace prevention and treatment equipment for waste water in order to improve the handling efficacy.
  • KYEC establishes the rainwater recycling system and rainwater drainage management procedures.
